body bop program
A 6-week 1:1 body appreciation and nutrition program for teens and their parents to reframe their relationship with food and their body.
Conversations about food and changing bodies can sometimes feel daunting. So many parents tell me that they don’t want to say the wrong thing or make an issue worse than it is. I hear you. Watching young people struggle with body image is so hard, particularly if we navigated the same thing when we were their age. This program is designed for you to do with your young person so that TOGETHER you can learn how to build a joyful relationship with food and your bodies.
What you and your teen will learn in the program
The influences that shape the way we eat and feel about our bodies
How nutrition can be used to support our health and wellbeing
Strategies to from a diet mindset of restriction to one where all foods are welcome
Delicious ways to ADD new foods into your diet
The basic cooking skills you need to get dinner on the table for the whole family
Why might your teen need 1:1 nutrition support?
They’re always tired
Gut issues (bloating, constipation, loose bowel movements)

working 1:1 with our founder
As a Clinical Nutritionist (BHSc), it is my role to listen and learn from you and your teen so I can understand your challenges, concerns, and the areas that you would like some extra support. I will create a detailed and individualised treatment plan specifically designed to support your teen with their nutrition and another one for you to help you foster a joyful relationship with food and body in your home. . If need be, I am also able to refer your teen to a general practitioner for blood tests, prescribe supplements, or recommend further support with a registered mental health practitioner if needed.

Wanting to be ‘skinny’ and wanting to be ‘healthy’ are two very very different things.
The health industry is hung up on the view that being skinny is the ticket to health and it couldn’t be further from the truth. We all are biochemically unique, which means that all our bodies are going to look, move and feel different. Our DNA is our genetic blueprint. It determines characteristics like our eye colour, hair colour, whether we have curly hair or straight hair. It also determines our weight and height. Even if your teen ate the same foods, did the same amount of exercise, used the same products and got the same amount of sleep as their best friend, the physical and psychological outcome would be completely different.
It is important that our teens learn to value their health over their physical experience. Research has shown that when young people shift the focus from their ‘weight’ to their ‘health’ they are more likely to:
Maintain relatively stable growth and development.
Move their body in a way that is enjoyable (not focusing on changing their body).
Be in tune with their bodies need for rest, comfort, healthcare and movement.
Have high self-esteem
Prioritise getting enough food over having to get “healthy” foods.
Have lower rates of disordered eating and eating disorders.
Collectively, these behaviours move your young person away from diet culture and towards a life where they can feel proud of and appreciate the body they’re in!

There are a few behaviours that might be present if your teen is struggling with their body image. They may show one of these things, some of these things or none of these. Struggles with food and body image look different in each person. That said, here are a few signs that might indicate that your teen is struggling with their body image and/or their relationship with food.
Labelling foods as ‘good’ or ‘bad’
Restricting intake of foods they previously enjoyed
Compulsive exercise or over exercising
Depression and anxiety
Limited social interactions
Disengagement from family and friends
Eating in private and avoiding meals with other people
Preoccupation with eating, food, body shape and weight
Loss or disturbance of menstruation
Fainting or dizziness
Feeling tired and not sleeping well
School workshops
This is Your Body also offers school workshops for teens.
