this week my year nines learnt…

On Wednesday I had the joy of presenting to a group of year nine girls.

We spoke a lot about beauty ideals and the pressure the wellness industry puts on our shoulders to look, behave and be a certain way.

From a young age, girls are shown an ideal of beauty that for many is unattainable or, if it is attainable, almost impossible to maintain.

It warmed my heart that my presentation was able to give them another way to view themselves, here is what a few of them took away from our time together:

  • ”to not worry about what people say”

  • ”don’t care about people’s opinions”

  • ”love yourself”

  • ”love your body”

  • ”to look after yourself and appreciate and love your body”

  • ”to fuel your body with good food and accept yourself”

  • ”being yourself and being positive”

  • ”body positivity is key”

  • ”love yourself”

  • ”everything”

  • ”that a lot of people experience body dysmorphia”

  • ”everyone’s body is different so everyone will have a different diet”

  • ”food is to help fuel our body and help us move”

  • ”everyone struggles in their own way”

  • ”your body is enough and you can’t change the way you look”

Ultimately, I wanted the girls to leave feeling proud of the body they’re in and with a few extra strategies of how to navigate the days that they’re not feeling as confident in their bodies. It warmed my heart to hear what they learned in our short time together.

If you want me to sprinkle the joy at your teens’ school, you can book a FREE 15-minute chat with me. In case you’re wondering which presentation this was, it was ‘the joy of being me.’
